A VPS: the computer that never switches off

The bot copies while MetaTrader is open. A VPS is a Windows computer that lives on the internet and keeps it open day and night. You log into it from your PC, your Mac or your phone, install MetaTrader inside and put the bot's two charts there. Then you can switch your computer off.

VPS, not VPN. A VPN changes your internet connection and is no use here. What you need is a Windows VPS.

Do I need one?

On your own computer

  • It works the same, at no extra cost.
  • If you switch it off, it sleeps or the internet drops, the bot stops copying until it is back.
  • Good for trying the bot for a few days.

On your phone

  • MetaTrader on a phone does not run bots.
  • It does let you see the trades the bot opens and log into your VPS.

The VPS is another company's service, not ours: you rent it, pay for it and ask them for support directly. We only recommend one that works well with the bot. It is an affiliate link: if you sign up from here, we get a commission at no extra cost to you.

1Rent a Windows VPSWe recommend DatabaseMart: the 8.99 USD a month Windows plan is enough for MetaTrader and the bot. Any other with Windows and remote desktop works too.

2Connect with Remote DesktopOn Windows, the Remote Desktop Connection app; on a Mac and on a phone, the Windows App. Use the address, user and password the VPS provider sends you.

4Follow the installation guide in thereThe eight steps, but in the VPS's MetaTrader. If you already had it on your PC, remove it there: the bot runs in one place only.

5Leave without closing anythingClose the remote desktop window with the X. Don't sign out or shut the VPS down.

What fails most often: signing out of the VPS or closing MetaTrader inside it. To leave, close only the remote desktop window with the X: the VPS and MetaTrader keep running.

VPS questions

If I switch my computer off, does it keep working?

Yes, if the bot is on the VPS. Your computer is only the window to get in; you can switch it off.

Do I have to set the bot up every time I log in?

No. While MetaTrader stays open on the VPS, the bot keeps working with what you set. You only log in to look.

What happens if the VPS restarts?

MetaTrader closes with it. Open it again and both charts start by themselves in their roles. To not depend on that, put MetaTrader in the VPS's Windows startup.

What about the VPS MetaTrader offers?

MetaTrader has its own paid VPS, but there you don't see the bot's panel and we can't help you check it. We recommend a Windows VPS where you see everything as on your computer.

Can I see my trades from my phone?

Yes. Log into MetaTrader on your phone with your account: you'll see what the bot opens. Just don't put the bot on the phone.
